Project Overview

When MasterCard set out to create their new 11,000 sq ft London office, sustainability, innovation, and employee well-being were at the heart of the design. M Moser Associates led the charge, delivering a space that not only reflected MasterCard’s brand but also embodied their global commitment to creating dynamic, sustainable work environments.

As part of this ambitious project, we were proud to play a small yet meaningful role—supporting M Moser’s vision by providing a bespoke curtain solution for the town hall area. While modest in scale compared to the broader fit-out, this curtain served an important purpose in enhancing the functionality and aesthetics of the space.

The Design Vision: A Detail That Makes a Difference

M Moser’s vision for the town hall was clear: create a versatile space that could seamlessly adapt to various functions, from presentations to collaborative meetings. Achieving this required a bespoke curtain solution that:

  • Subtly integrated with the architectural design while concealing riser doors and complementing retractable video screens.

  • Featured a custom pattern inspired by MasterCard’s branding, adding a subtle design element without overwhelming the space.

  • Maintained functionality while supporting the office’s sustainability goals.

Sarah Long of Svensson was already working closely with M Moser, providing bespoke fabric solutions tailored to the project’s high design standards. Recognising that the town hall required a custom digitally printed curtain beyond the existing fabric specification, she introduced us to M Moser, confident that our expertise in delivering complex, large-scale curtain installations would complement the wider design vision.

“I had no hesitation in recommending ILE to the designers at M Moser. I knew that the bespoke curtain requirements would be in safe hands with Fay, leaving no stone unturned to craft the perfect solution…”

While Svensson’s Ombré 300 – 3010/3132 fabrics were specified across other key areas of the project, our role was to deliver the town hall’s custom-designed curtain, ensuring it aligned with M Moser’s aesthetic and functional expectations while integrating seamlessly into the broader architectural framework.

Challenges & Technical Considerations

Although the scope of our work was focused, it presented a unique set of challenges. Bespoke fabric and printing limitations proved difficult as finding a supplier capable of producing a large, non-repetitive custom print was challenging, with most vendors requiring bulk orders far beyond the project’s needs.

Maintaining design integrity was another concern, as the curtain’s wave pattern—crucial for its fluid drape—risked distorting the bespoke artwork when drawn, potentially compromising the aesthetic.

Additionally, precise installation requirements demanded meticulous attention, as the curtain had to fit within tight spatial constraints, integrating seamlessly with retractable screens and riser doors without interfering with other architectural elements.

“This project was all about supporting a bold vision with subtle, thoughtful details. While our role was small, it was incredibly rewarding to contribute to something that blends functionality with such striking design. It’s a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration and attention to detail.”

Our Contribution: Small Detail, Thoughtful Execution

While M Moser’s team led the creative process, we provided the technical expertise needed to turn their vision for the curtain into reality:

Material Sourcing & Supplier Coordination

This project required sourcing a highly specialised curtain fabric that aligned with both the aesthetic and functional requirements of the space. The challenge was finding a supplier that could produce a large, non-repetitive custom print, while meeting MasterCard’s branding and sustainability objectives.

When traditional suppliers couldn’t meet the brief, we tapped into our network of fabric specialists to develop a tailored solution that met both design intent and project timelines. Through close collaboration with M Moser’s design team, we ensured the fabric selection provided the right balance of texture, durability, and seamless integration into the town hall’s architectural framework.

Technical Problem-Solving

To address potential design distortion, we collaborated with M Moser to implement a mirrored bleed effect—a subtle adjustment that ensured the artwork remained consistent, even with the curtain’s natural folds.

Precision in Installation

Our team managed the curtain’s installation with care, ensuring that every detail—from the hidden track system to the magnetic closures—aligned perfectly with M Moser’s broader design intent.

    The Result: A Seamless Integration

The final curtain may have been a small feature within the expansive town hall, but it played a key role in enhancing the space’s functionality and flow. Designed to be unobtrusive yet purposeful, it complements M Moser’s architectural vision without drawing attention away from the broader design.

MasterCard’s feedback was overwhelmingly positive, particularly in how the curtain effortlessly blends into the multifunctional environment while providing practical value.

    Reflections on Our Role

While our contribution was modest, we’re proud of the role we played in supporting M Moser’s vision. This project was a reminder that even small design elements can have a significant impact when approached with care and attention to detail.

“Our goal was simple: to support M Moser’s design in a way that felt seamless,” said Simon Notton-Brown“It’s a small part of a bigger picture, but it’s rewarding to know we played a role in a space that’s both beautiful and functional.”
